Facilitation of Parents Programme

Resilient families

Empowering Parents, Strengthening Families

At Abigail Women’s Movement, we believe that strong, resilient families are the cornerstone of thriving communities. Our Facilitation of Parents Programme is dedicated to empowering parents with the resources, skills, and support they need to create healthy, supportive, and sustainable households. By equipping parents with knowledge and confidence, we’re helping families across Khayelitsha build a brighter future for themselves and the next generation.

Our Mission

The Facilitation of Parents Programme is here to support parents in their unique roles as caregivers, role models, and leaders. Through workshops, community support groups, and practical resources, we aim to empower parents to foster stable, loving, and self-sufficient homes.

Resilient families

What We Offer

  • Parenting Workshops
Our parenting workshops provide practical tools and guidance on everything from effective communication and positive discipline to child development. These sessions are designed to help parents feel confident and capable in nurturing their children’s growth and well-being.
  • Health Education
Good health is essential for strong families. We offer regular health education sessions that cover topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and preventive care. Parents learn how to maintain their family’s health, recognize early signs of illness, and access local healthcare resources.
  • Financial Literacy and Budgeting
Financial stability is a key part of building a self-sustaining household. Our financial literacy workshops teach parents essential budgeting skills, helping them make the most of their resources, plan for the future, and build a foundation for economic stability.
  • Mental Health and Emotional Well-Being
Parenting is rewarding but can be challenging. We provide resources and support groups focused on mental health and emotional well-being, creating a safe space where parents can share their experiences, learn coping skills, and receive guidance on managing stress and mental health challenges.
  • Community Building and Peer Support
We foster a community of mutual support by connecting parents with each other through peer groups and local events. By building connections within their community, parents find encouragement, advice, and solidarity, reinforcing the network of support that strengthens families.

Why It Matters

The Facilitation of Parents Programme does more than provide resources—it builds strong, resilient families who can thrive despite life’s challenges. When parents are equipped with the knowledge, support, and tools they need, they are empowered to create a safe, nurturing environment for their children and to actively contribute to a healthier, more cohesive community.

How You Can Help

There are many ways you can support the parents in our community through this program:

  • Sponsor a Workshop
Help cover the costs of essential parenting workshops, including materials, childcare, and expert facilitators. Your support ensures parents have access to valuable learning opportunities.
  • Volunteer as a Workshop Facilitator or Mentor
If you have experience in health, education, finance, or mental health, you can make a meaningful impact by sharing your knowledge with parents through our workshops or mentoring sessions.
  • Donate to the Parents Programme
Financial contributions enable us to provide ongoing support, resources, and training to parents in need. Your donation can make a lasting difference in the lives of families across Khayelitsha.
