Promoting safety,
Creating Safe Spaces and Ending the Cycle of Violence
At Abigail Women’s Movement, we stand with survivors and work tirelessly to prevent gender-based violence (GBV) in our communities. Our Gender-Based Violence Mitigation program is dedicated to promoting safety, supporting survivors, and addressing the root causes of GBV. In Khayelitsha and surrounding areas, we work closely with community leaders, educators, and local organizations to create lasting change, raise awareness, and offer resources to those affected.
Our Mission
The Gender-Based Violence Mitigation program aims to protect vulnerable individuals, support survivors, and reduce violence in our community. Through education, support groups, and resources, we empower individuals to live in safety and dignity, creating a community where everyone is free from violence and fear.
Promoting safety
What We Offer
- Safe Spaces and Counseling for Survivors
Survivors of GBV need compassionate, confidential support. Our program provides safe spaces where individuals can share their stories, receive counseling, and connect with others who have similar experiences. We work with trained professionals to ensure that survivors receive the emotional and psychological care they need to heal. - Educational Workshops and Awareness Campaigns
Education is a powerful tool in the fight against gender-based violence. Through workshops and community events, we educate individuals on GBV prevention, healthy relationships, and respectful communication. These sessions are aimed at dismantling harmful norms and empowering community members to recognize and report violence. - Legal and Resource Referrals
Navigating legal systems can be challenging for survivors. We connect individuals with local resources, including legal aid, shelters, and healthcare services, ensuring they have the support they need to move forward. Our partnerships with local organizations make it possible for survivors to access comprehensive assistance. - Youth Outreach Programs
Preventing violence starts with education. Our youth outreach programs teach young people about gender equality, respect, and consent. By equipping the next generation with this knowledge, we aim to foster a future free from GBV, where respect is the norm in all relationships. - Community Dialogues
Open conversations about gender-based violence are crucial to building awareness and changing attitudes. We host community dialogues that bring together men, women, and youth to discuss the impact of GBV, share experiences, and work toward collective solutions. These dialogues are safe, inclusive spaces where everyone’s voice is valued.
Why It Matters
Gender-based violence has lasting effects on individuals, families, and entire communities. By addressing this issue directly, we create safer environments for everyone and foster a culture of respect, understanding, and empathy. Through prevention, education, and support, the Gender-Based Violence Mitigation program aims to break the cycle of violence, offering hope and healing to those affected.

If you’re passionate about education and advocacy, consider volunteering to lead workshops on GBV prevention and healthy relationships. Your voice can make a difference in spreading awareness and empowering others to take a stand against violence. - Donate to the Program
Financial support allows us to provide ongoing resources, safe spaces, and educational programs for the community. Every donation helps create a safer, more supportive environment for those affected by GBV.
